MSP To Council: Apply For Energy Efficiency Funding

MSP Ben Macpherson has encouraged the local council to apply for energy efficiency funding

MSP Ben Macpherson, who has vast experience working with renewable energies, has encouraged the City of Edinburgh Council to apply for some of the Scottish Government’s £11m kitty to make energy efficiency improvements to homes, public buildings and community projects.

To help local authorities test new and innovative energy efficient techniques, the second instalment of Scotland’s energy efficiency programmes should help improve home energy efficiency, saving money and helping the environment on the way.

It’s not just Scotland who are looking to make energy efficiency improvements, either. Wales will spend £104 million to make energy efficiency improvements to homes in deprived areas.

It has been reported that energy errors cost homes hundreds of pounds per year, meaning there’s plenty of money to be saved by making home energy efficient adjustments.

Mr Macpherson, Scottish National Party, urged the Edinburgh council to apply for funding to make energy efficient alterations to homes, saying: “The Scottish Government’s £11m funding pot to help improve energy efficiency in homes, businesses and public buildings in Scotland is a great opportunity for local communities, supporting local projects that build on the successful work already carried out and ensuring Scotland leads the way in energy efficiency.”

“I am calling on the City of Edinburgh Council to submit proposals on how they’d use this funding to help meet local energy needs more efficiently and at a lower cost, whilst also helping tackle climate change.”

“The SNP Government has delivered almost one million energy efficiency measures to almost one million Scottish households since 2008 and invested more than £650 million over the last eight years. I’d encourage as many communities as possible to come up with their own proposals to make use of this vital funding to help transform energy efficiency in their area.”
