2D floor plans serve a different purpose to their 3D counter-parts. People use 2D plans for making measurements to see if their furniture fits into the property rather than having a more detailed plan. Additional features can be added to a 2D floor plans. Once you have measured your house with a 2D floor plan, you can proceed with any alterations you wish to make to your property.
