Improving Energy Efficiency Crucial To Paris Targets

In order to reach the goals set in the Paris Agreement, improvements to home energy efficiency will have to be made.

According to a report by the Economist Intelligence Unit, there are three ways to make these improvements; raising awareness, offering financial incentives and by altering regulations.

The group says which method is utilised must be well thought-out and is dependant on which method best suits the audiences.

There are indications that trust is an important element and breeds energy efficiency success, and could play a crucial role in making the necessary improvements to energy efficiency to hit the Paris targets.

“People think about renewables and the supply side but the more mundane business of saving energy actually makes a bigger contribution. The biggest source of clean energy in the world today is energy efficiency because it allows you to do more without having to supply more energy,” said Brian Motherway, Head of Energy Efficiency with the International Energy Agency.

In addition, it has been reported that energy efficient homes create new jobs, meaning that European countries could also benefit economically.

The EU recently hit its energy efficiency target 6 years early, an achievement in which the UK played a crucial role.
