The Energy Efficiency Rating Explained

Every EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) includes an Energy Efficiency Rating. This was introduced to make people more energy aware and reduce carbon emissions – nearly 50% of which originate from public and domestic buildings.

We at EPCarlson want our customers to have the best Energy Efficiency Rating possible. We employ only experienced, accredited energy assessors, who are always happy to give Energy Efficiency Advice to their customers to improve their rating.

Explaining the Energy Efficiency Rating

Every property sold or rented in England and Wales must, by law, have an EPC, containing an Energy Efficiency Rating. This is calculated by a qualified Energy Assessor using specialised computer software, and analyses factors affecting energy efficiency and carbon emissions, including:

Property construction: date of build, size, number of floors etc
Modifications e.g. extensions
Wall and roof insulation
Doors and windows e.g. is double glazing installed?
Ventilation and heating.
Any existing energy saving devices

Computer analysis of the data gives a final Energy Efficiency Rating, displayed in graphic format as a figure between 1 – 100, plus a grading of A to G, A being the most energy efficient.

Energy Efficiency Advice

The EPC contains helpful Energy Efficiency Advice, and current and projected Energy Efficiency Rating charts to show the effect of following that advice. The certificate also has information on carbon emissions and estimated your energy costs.
