Display Energy Certificate from EPCarlson
All public buildings providing a public service, or occupied by a public authority, must by law have a Display Energy Certificate clearly on show if the total useful floor area is above 1,000m2. This is due to be changed to 500m2 in the near future.
Display Energy Certificates are designed to promote energy efficiency by making the public aware of energy usage. A DEC can only be issued by an accredited Public and Private DEC Assessor. What do Display Energy Certificates contain?
Display Energy Certificates show the energy usage of buildings, based on meter readings. A benchmark comparison is done and the result displayed as an Operational Rating, similar to those seen on white goods. Display Energy Certificates include:
• Previous ratings (if applicable)
• Total CO2 emissions
• Technical information, including how much fuel was used
The role of the Public and Private DEC Assessor
The Public and Private DEC Assessor can only perform the assessment using government approved software. They need to know:
• The building’s gross internal floor area
• Fuels used
• Actual meter readings for year of assessment – if these are not provided the rating will default to G
The assessor will then provide a certificate and separate Advisory Report.
